We live about a mile away from a sports venue. The particular sport isn’t important. What’s important is we can hear some of the activity from this venue. No, this isn’t a complaint about that fact. I know you are shocked considering my constant stream of complaints about noise at our old house. Seriously, after that, this is barely noticeable. The reason I point out we can hear activity is to demonstrate the closeness of this venue.
This weekend they were having a special event, compete with fireworks. What a perfect evening to sit out on the deck and watch the fireworks!
I decided the kids would enjoy this so we invited them over. Our plan was to get takeout from our favorite barbecue place. That plan hit a little roadblock. When my husband and son arrived at the restaurant, they found the door locked. They noticed smoke coming from the back and called out. They were told, “We’re closed. This was an insane day.” I’m not quite sure what that means. My best guess is they ran out of food.
We found a decent substitute, had dinner, and went for a walk with the little guy to look at the construction vehicles around the corner. Then we waited for the fireworks. The start time was supposed to be 9 pm. 9 came and went. Not a single pop. 9:30 passed. Nothing. 10 came. Still nothing. The kids decided it was getting late and they packed up to leave.
Then we heard fireworks rumbling. That was pretty much the highlight. We saw smoke. We saw the sky brighten. We heard bangs. Either we have very, very tall trees surrounding us or they had very low firing fireworks. This was supposed to be a professional show? We saw better, illegal fireworks in our old neighborhood. My husband just tried to use physics to explain this. My brain is now numb.
