Way too slowly I have been unpacking the boxes containing less used items, transferring most things to plastic bins and storing them down in the basement.
About the basement: The only entrance is out back via bulkhead doors, thus it is a bit of a hassle conveying items to the basement.
On Wednesday I brought down a bin of seasonal items. Having no idea where the light switch is located and unwilling to walk for any distance hunched over in the dark (the basement is four feet high so yes, I do have to hunch over) I generally place things very close to the stairs so I have easy access to the bins and can see them without using my flashlight app.
Yesterday I gathered up two more bins and carried them outside, around the back, and into the basement. I opened the doors and was surprised. It sure seemed a lot brighter down there than usual. After a second or two, I realized the light was on.
Now remember – I had no idea where the light switch was so I didn’t turn it on. Was someone sneaking into our basement at night, hoping to steal my Christmas ornaments or my Thanksgiving centerpiece? Those bulkhead doors aren’t exactly quiet. I think it would be kind of difficult to get in there silently and I was home all day.
I walked over to the light and followed the wiring backwards in search of a switch. It turned out, it was right next to the entrance. Near as I can figure, I must have bumped it on my way out the previous day, turning the lights on. Yeah, I do walk into things. All the time. Therefore, I pay little attention when that happens. That seems the most likely and logical explanation. Either that or someone is rifling through my boxes of CDs to gauge my taste in music and then carefully taping the boxes back up again.
That’s the first scene in a horror movie..
