People have been knocking on the door: the front door, the side door, the sliding glass doors in the dining room. It’s quite distinct, a definite rapping sound. I peek outside, putting on the porch light. No one is there.
Now I’m fairly certain the old people in this community aren’t into the old ‘Ding Dong Ditch’ routine. Can you imagine a 90 year old shuffling up to the door, knocking, and then shuffling off quickly enough not to be spotted? Hmmm…. unless they duck behind a bush. Then they don’t need much speed. Nah! As amusing an image that is, I’m thinking it’s pretty unlikely.
So back to the mysterious knocking – I am at a complete loss as to the cause. And it’s not just me imagining things. The other night my husband heard it, too.
Here’s my list of possibilities:
1. A giant insect is lost and smacking into the door.
2. We have a rabid bat lurking outside, trying to break in.
3. There’s a blind woodpecker living nearby who thinks our door is a tree.
Regardless, it is just slightly disconcerting. Time to break out the blessed chalk and holy water. My son better get here soon. This house needs a good blessing!
