Late this afternoon we heard one of the dogs next door barking. That was nothing shocking. We are surrounded by barking dogs: 1 behind us, 1 to the left, and 2 to the right. This time, though, the barking was a bit more frantic and was accompanied by another odd sound.
Naturally I had to investigate so I looked out the window. There was a chicken in my neighbor’s backyard. The little dog seemed quite determined to have a chicken dinner, never mind that said chicken was about the same size as the dog.
The owners of the dog were flabbergasted to discover the chicken. No one knows where it came from although clearly it couldn’t have traveled from too far away.
Several hours have elapsed. I have heard no further barking or clucking. I don’t know if the rightful owners of the chicken reclaimed him, if the dog befriended him, or if the chicken ended up being roasted and served for dinner.
