In case some of my readers are not familiar with the show Chopped, it’s sort of a mixture of a reality show, game show, and cooking show. Four people compete against each other cooking dishes from random stuff contained in a basket.
Last night I played my own version of Chopped. As I said yesterday, my week’s menus hit an unexpected snag. I couldn’t go out to buy any groceries because it was raining and my little man was sick. Instead I played scavenger hunt, looking in the freezer and pantry to see what I could find that wouldn’t be awful together.
Hmmm… there’s a big pork bone in the freezer. We have black beans, Adzuki beans, mung beans and black lentils. There’s an onion and a can of diced tomatoes. All of that went into a pot with water and some berbere seasoning and there ya go – bean soup.
I can’t think of anything that goes better with homemade soup than homemade bread. Naturally, with limited time, it had to be a quick bread so I made beer bread. Six simple ingredients = pure deliciousness.
I’m pretty sure I would have won that episode of Chopped.
