That title sounds like some sort of WWF smackdown match. Who will win this match: the old, out of shape granny or the young, strong mommy? Not too much of a mystery about that result but that’s not what I meant.
Life as a grandmother is much different than life as a mother. At the top of the list would be the whole sleep-deprivation part. Thanks to the wonderful little app that fills my bedroom with white noise at night, I’m not waking up every two hours. It’s a whole lot easier dealing with a crying baby when you don’t feel like crying yourself.
Other differences between the two:
When the baby cries – Mom’s reaction: “He just ate. He’s fine.”
Grandma’s reaction: “He wants Grandma to hold him.”
When the baby smiles – Mom: “He just has gas.” (probably true)
Grandma: “He smiled at me!”
When baby falls asleep – Mom: Tries to get as much done as possible.
Grandma: Sits there staring at the beautiful little baby.
When the baby burps – Mom resumes feeding him.
Grandma gives him (as Mommy describes it) a huge fanfare.
Right now the little guy doesn’t do much other than eat and sleep but I’m pretty certain as he does more, this list will grow.
