Help

I put in a couple of enhancements for the website so that regular readers of this blog can see new notes and new comments without going through the entire website.

One plugin I’m using allows you to subscribe to a post. There’s a little checkbox near the bottom of the comment form that says, “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail.” If you have that checked, you will receive any follow-up comments to that thread in email. That means you can read all the comments from the comfort of your very own email program without going all the way back to my blog.

You need to register for this to work. (Otherwise, how can the blog send you email?) Registering will not subject you to spam or anything. I’m using a gmail account for the blog and I haven’t gotten a single piece of junk email. I don’t think spam robots have the capacity to hack into my database so your info should be pretty safe.

Another plugin shows up in the sidebar under the section titled “Posts with unread comments.” There will be a list of posts with new comments. The number of new comments will be listed in parenthesis next to the post title and if you click on that number, it will take you to the first unread comment. This plugin uses cookies so if you have them blocked for my site, it won’t work. And why would you want them blocked for my site, anyway? Unless you know I am obtaining all sorts of information from your cookies like all of your deepest, darkest secrets.

If anyone needs to email me, click on the little flying envelope near the top of the sidebar.

Additional Info:
If anyone else uses WordPress and wants to know what plugins I use on this site, I am using the following:

  • Quoter -
Quoter allows users to quote a comment or a post in their comments, in a similar way to forums.
  • Search Everything -
Adds search functionality with little setup. Including options to search pages, attachments, drafts, comments and custom fields (metadata).
This plugin will allow your visitors to share your content via social bookmarking sites and/or e-mailing the post to a friend.
  • WP Grins -
This plugin allows you to put clickable smilies on your post and comments forms.
  • WP Movie Ratings -
WP Movie Ratings is a wordpress plugin that makes rating movies very easy. The output from this plugin is a list of recently watched movies, which you can put anywhere you want.
  • WP-Print -
Displays a printable version of your WordPress blog’s post/page.
  • WP AJAX Edit Comments - Beta Version
Allows you and your users to edit their comments inline. Admin and editors can edit all comments.

Some of these simply require you to upload them and activate them. Others require you to edit different files. See the individual plugin websites for more info.
