Today I took a little trip to our warehouse superstore to buy some groceries. These were on my list. Guess what we’re gonna make!

And now I know why limoncello isn’t cheap to buy. Do you know it’s not really a whole lot of fun zesting 25 lemons?

Now the whole mess sits for a month & a half. Those little zesty things are in there getting completely loaded. That jar holds a gallon. Once I add the simple syrup, it’ll be close to that. Let’s hope this stuff comes out good because I won’t be too happy to have wasted all that vodka and zested all those lemons for nothing.

looks interesting. Guess you won’t be doing any zesting any time soon though

If it turns out good, I will post the recipe on the “Cooking For a Cause” blog.

Is this leading up to a great lemon fest 2008?

Limoncello! I assume this is from the recipe I gave Lou. My best tip is to use WAY more lemon zest than called for, and also to let it sit longer than the recipe calls for. What do you use for zesting? After trying so many different gadgets, I got a Microplane, recommended by David F. and it’s the best, by far! My last batch wasn’t wonderful - the lemon rind was thin and not yellow enough and I was rushed and didn’t let it sit long enough. But still far better than store bought. Lynn and I like our homemade better than what we had in Florence when we were introduced to it. Enjoy!!

Yep, that was your recipe. I recalled the whole microplane discussion & had bought one a few months back exactly for this. The only thing I did differently was use a 50/50 mixture of regular vodka & 160 proof vodka. I read that using the higher one will prevent it from freezing if you store it in the freezer. Of course it also means it’ll knock us on our asses. Also read to let it sit for 45 days.
Kinda funny you wandering over to my blog just when the conversation turns to Limoncello.

I think your limoncello-to-be looks beautemous and is going to taste even better. I volunteer to come and try it out to let you know just exactly how much it takes to knock one flat on their ass!
If this batch turns out good, I think you should consider an all-purpose “Fruit Festival” for 2009. Apples, lemons, melons, whatever. It could be huge, and LOTS of fun. But you and Frank probably wouldn’t know because the two of you would abandon us all and go do something else. BWAHAHAHAHA!
