On September 5th, 4 days ago, there were 2 bomb threats in Washington, D.C. One was in Columbia Heights & the other was at the Basilica of the National Shrine which is adjacent to Catholic University. What I’m wondering is this – why did they evacuate Target but not Catholic U? “Let’s save the shoppers but the heck with the Catholic college students!”
Is it just me or does that seem sorta weird?
On the other hand, back when I was in high school (in the 70s), I used to work in the office, answering the switchboard, we used to get bomb threats all the time. It was just assumed someone was trying to get the school shut down and they were ignored. I’m not even sure we handed the phone off to an adult.
In college I worked in the collections department of the state tax commission. It’s pretty safe to say we were hated! Oh the threats we received.
My experience in DC and working at Georgetown University was that the institution had to make the decision not the DC Police. Weird, but that’s the way it is. DC has no jurisdiction over land owned by the Roman Catholic Church. The police can recommend it, urge it, etc. but they can’t make them do it. In addition, the information they had about the threat may have given them the sense that it was a false alarm. Still, it’s scary.
Ah, didn’t think of that, Nancie. You know me. Paranoid. Everything is always a big, evil plot…
