Today I got to spend a few hours sitting at the orthopedist’s office with Theresa. I didn’t think to bring a book so first Theresa tried to amuse me by showing me math. “Look, Mom! These are called ‘proofs’ & let me show you how to do it.” My family is weird. The 3 of them all get very excited about math. Not me. If any of them start talking and it involves numbers, I just zone out. She showed me a couple of letters & said some stuff and I pretended to pay attention.
That got old quickly. Instead we started looking at all the people sitting there. “Theresa!” I whispered. “Look at that old guy. He’s wearing an Italia soccer shirt just like I’m wearing!” She didn’t find the coincidence interesting. (And for those who are wondering, yes I did get those wine stains out of it.) Plus, it wasn’t really like mine. It was just an Italia soccer shirt but technically, it was completely different looking. Maybe that’s why she wasn’t impressed.
Then there was the old couple next to us. Apparently the wife had fallen asleep so when the nurse called to them, the poor women nearly hit the ceiling. Theresa decided that was a good idea so she decided she was going to try to sleep. I took her special education textbook & flipped through it to see how they identified learning disabilities and to self diagnosis myself. Unfortunately, I didn’t get too far in the book, nor did Theresa’s nap go too well. Soon as we were both occupied, only an hour & a half after arriving, they called us in. I think Theresa jumped, just like that other lady.
Lucky thing I don’t have too many people reading my blog because I can just picture talking about someone we saw and then finding out they’re reading my blog. I’m not sure they’d like being the topic of the day. Mr. Frank Italia Soccer Shirt? Are you out there reading this?
ARE YOU THERE MONK? IT’S ME, GOD (aka Mr. Frank Italia Soccor Shirt.) HAVE YOU BEEN TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE…..AGAIN?
If you find out any good diagnosis from her special ed book that explains why I can’t do math at all, let me know. I need a good excuse other than ” I went to school at Rock Hill.” Most people around here understand when I say that.
I soooo understand the math problem…It’s a language I don’t speak and never will…thank God my kids figured it out on their own. Now the peple watching is something different all together…I could get really interested in something like that
And I don’t mean to sound like a moron but i’ve never heard of an Italia Soccer shirt. Maybe I should get out more—ya think?
It’s just a plain old t-shirt, like any other sports team t-shirt. Except it’s a soccer one rather than baseball or hockey and it’s for an entire country, rather than just a team. We’re not real big soccer fans but when Italy won the world cup a few years back…. I think that’s another story I need to blog about.
