Throwing In The Towel

How many towels does 1 person need? Like say a young man was moving to some foreign country for 5 or 6 years and wouldn’t be back in NY for 2 years. Apparently the answer to that question is well the number of towels depends entirely on who your mother is.

Let me ask y’all something. Do you use a new towel every time you take a shower or do you reuse one for a couple of days? What is the norm here with towels?

This is my take on it – you just took a shower. You presumably washed yourself. With soap. You should be clean now. All you’re doing is wiping water off your dripping body. Theoretically it’s clean water. Therefore, the towel is still clean. Wet, maybe, but clean.

It seems my sister has a different opinion. You’d think since we were raised by the same mother, that we’d have the same viewpoint on this but we do not. Nope, she has to have a clean towel every single day. So does her husband & son. That’s 21 towels to wash every single week. If she uses another towel for her hair like I do, then it’s 28.

(I just told Frank, “I’m making fun of my sister on my blog.” His response was, “Well that’s okay, I suppose.”)

Getting back to the Towel in the Trunk question, so if you are Janet, you need to pack 7 towels. Sorry but Stephen is only getting 3. And I didn’t even go out and buy new ones for him. I am such a bad mother! Hey, why should I give him more than 3? I’d be amazed if he uses more than 1 in a week.

Meantime, while I’m packing trunks, he’s off in Australia hanging out with the Pope and I didn’t even get to see him on TV this time.

Well, we always want our children to do better than us, right? Right. Especially when it comes to The Pope and all. Besides, I’m thinking Steve has a special “in” . I’m with you on the towel thing. And I left a comment to your comment over at my place  .

I change towels on average a couple times a week. But then, if I had someone to change mine daily, I’d have no objection!

I use a new one daily but SH uses the same one for days. My DD does my laundry so I don’t mind
What would surprise me would be if your son actually washed his towels after they have been used just a few times….mine wouldn’t.

I’m betting he uses one towel for an entire month, at least. And I don’t even want to know how long the boy keeps sheets on his bed. Oh, wait. Half the time he probably just fell asleep on the couch, just like he does at home so I guess the sheets weren’t used much.

Far as the Pope goes, I’m thinking he’s going to think Steve is stalking him. First in Germany, then here in D.C. and NY, now Australia and then in Rome….

Seriously, just watching World Youth Day on TV, it looks like such an incredible experience. I’m sorry I didn’t send Theresa. I promised to let her attend the next one.

Well, I’ll be! My favorite NYer just used the work y’al!!!! WAY TO GO MONK!!!

I bet your son thanks you when he does laundry! We do not use a new towel each day. Well, Linus does, but Army and I don’t. We also don’t put on different underwear. I figure they’re good for a few days too; it’s not like we really soil them. I hate doing laundry, so I cut corners where I can. JUST KIDDING. New towels each day? NO. New undies? YES!

Damn! I make a big deal of your word choice, and I can’t even get the word “WORD” right. Time for bed…

I use a new towel every time I shower, but I always followed your philosophy of — “you’re clean when you dry yourself off so you should be able to get a few uses out of a towel each week… if not seven uses.” I am of the firm opinion that he/she who does the laundry gets to make the decision.
