Last night I posted about the weird Church/Mass. Today we get to the fun stuff – the party. First off, I got a tremendous kick out of the fact that everyone else in my family was introduced as Mike’s cousin but I got introduced as The Godmother. (It doesn’t take a whole lot to thrill me.) At this party, I got to actually sit down and talk with my family, unlike the situation at Steve’s party last month.

I’m going to bore you with a quick background bio – I have 10 first cousins but we only grew up with 3 of them, all siblings & the children of my godparents, my mom’s sister & her husband. The oldest, Joe, is a priest. The next 2, Barbara & Terri have 4 sons & 1 son, respectively. Yeah, we have a lot of boys & we are a family that likes to tease. That’s what made the day so fun.

Terri’s son is 13 and taller than both of my kids. He especially likes teasing Theresa about this. Well he teases her about anything he can think of. He also kept trying to grab her cellphone from her, sometimes successfully. His plan was to text people with I can’t even begin to imagine what. At one point Theresa was chasing him to try to get her phone back. As he ran towards the front of the house, I went one way with Mike’s fiancée and Theresa went the other way with Terri.

Alex tried hiding behind these big bushes but, what with it being Nancy’s house, she pretty much knew the most commonly used hiding places. He then took off for the other side of the house. Theresa was waiting for him & I ran after him so he couldn’t double back. He figured he could handle Wounded Ankle Theresa easily. What he didn’t know is his mother was hiding just around the edge of the house. As he ran towards Theresa, Terri made this fantastic tackle and between the 3 of us, we were able to subdue him and recover the cellphone.

Later that evening as we were saying good bye to everyone, Steve and one of his cousins took turns sneaking up behind each other and picking each other up. Keep in mind that we are the shrimps of the family. Which reminds me, when Alex was putting Theresa’s cellphone number into his phone, he used the nickname “Shrimp” for her.

In some ways, the timing of the party was bad with Steve leaving because he really had a lot of things to take care of but mostly the timing was the best thing that could have happened. He got to see just about everyone right before going away for the next 2 years.
