Tonight I discovered why no one in my neighborhood seems to know how to use a turn signal or is capable of driving straight. I was driving near one of those driving school cars. There was only 1 person in the car so I’m guessing it was the instructor. I sure hope it wasn’t the student! And let me tell ya, there is no way on God’s green earth that I’d allow that driver to instruct any child of mine. Lucky thing mine have been driving for years, eh?
The reason I was out was because it seems that my son is leaving for Australia (for World Youth Day) at 4 a.m. Sunday morning and is only just now packing up his stuff for that trip and his trunk that will be sent to Rome. While we are going through his clothes and he is freaking out about all he has to do in a short period of time, he tells me how long he will be in Australia.
Now I could have figured that out on my own but for some reason, it never really occurred to me to ponder that. He will be in Australia for 9 days. He will then be back here in NY for 1 day before leaving for Rome. Well Assisi, first, because that’s where he will study Italian. Anyhow, when he’s in Italy, he will be able to do laundry but that will not be the case in Australia. That means the boy needs 9 pairs of boxers, socks, etc. At 5:30 tonight he tells me he doesn’t have that many.
Now yes, I know I could have made him go out and buy the stuff himself but I thought it was more important for him to go out with his sister for a couple of hours to the movies and dinner. The next 32 hours around here should be real interesting.
Do as I say, not as I do with the driver’s ed guy, huh?
I hope Stephen has a great time! I’m sure he will. I really, REALLY, wish I had been able to attend a WYD when JPII was alive. I’ve heard he was incredible at WYD.
By the way, you may have heard of the guy from tonight’s blog. His name is Roger. Roger Clemens. I’m sure y’all may have a different opinion of him.
I am figuring in another 24 hours after that 32 for you to relax and then about 12 normal hours before you start thinking of things he should dowhen he gets back from WYD and before he leaves again and you will get stressed out. Talk to you in August
Stopping by from Kim-d and WOW…my name is Joanne, i’m from Brooklyn, and one of four kids. Are you Irish/Catholic too
Small world. Nice to meet you…i’ll be back!
Lanny, I would have loved to see JPII in person in his younger days. We saw him at the Vatican in 2000 when he was already pretty ill from the Parkinson’s. Far as Roger goes, yeah my opinion of him isn’t so great and yet I keep going back to the fact that he’s close friends with Andy Pettite and I really like & respect Andy. I think he’s a good guy so there has to be something he sees in Roger. I guess no one is all good nor all bad. Well some are but not many.
Katy, at this very minute, the boy is supposed to be packing his carry on for Australia. Instead he is sitting on the floor petting the dog and getting fur all over my floor. And guess who’s responsible for getting his trunks shipped out to Italy. Yeah, that would be me. I’m gonna need prayers to keep my stress level down.
Jojo, glad you stopped by. Hopefully I won’t bore you to death. I’m Catholic but not Irish. Hey, we were in Brooklyn this morning because my son just realized he needed a black clerical shirt.
Again, I totally and completely agree with you. It WAS more important for him to spend the time with his sister. Just like, in my opinion, I think it was more important for you to perform that Motherly duty for him rather than making him do it himself regardless of the reason. Every time my Mom helped me move, before she would leave, she insisted that she and I make up my bed. It took me a time or two to understand it, but once I did it made me happy. And I LOVED JPII, Parkinson’s and all–WYD, in person, with JPII would have been amazing! Whenever I would see TV coverage, I was envious!
