Tonight I discovered why no one in my neighborhood seems to know how to use a turn signal or is capable of driving straight. I was driving near one of those driving school cars. There was only 1 person in the car so I’m guessing it was the instructor. I sure hope it wasn’t the student! And let me tell ya, there is no way on God’s green earth that I’d allow that driver to instruct any child of mine. Lucky thing mine have been driving for years, eh?

The reason I was out was because it seems that my son is leaving for Australia (for World Youth Day) at 4 a.m. Sunday morning and is only just now packing up his stuff for that trip and his trunk that will be sent to Rome. While we are going through his clothes and he is freaking out about all he has to do in a short period of time, he tells me how long he will be in Australia.

Now I could have figured that out on my own but for some reason, it never really occurred to me to ponder that. He will be in Australia for 9 days. He will then be back here in NY for 1 day before leaving for Rome. Well Assisi, first, because that’s where he will study Italian. Anyhow, when he’s in Italy, he will be able to do laundry but that will not be the case in Australia. That means the boy needs 9 pairs of boxers, socks, etc. At 5:30 tonight he tells me he doesn’t have that many.

Now yes, I know I could have made him go out and buy the stuff himself but I thought it was more important for him to go out with his sister for a couple of hours to the movies and dinner. The next 32 hours around here should be real interesting.
