Check Out That Boyfriend

My goodness, there are a lot of things online! If you’re single and dating or if your daughter is dating, I think you need to bookmark these websites. Then you can find out if a potential date was in a federal prison. Now wouldn’t that be handy to find out? And of course, you want to make sure your daughter isn’t dating a sex offender.

I also discovered that if you are using the Social Security Death index for family research, it’s not altogether accurate. They had the wrong date of birth for my brother (although the correct month and year). I also assume the “P” they had as my mother’s middle name is a reference to her maiden name because her middle name didn’t begin with a “P”; it was Giovanna. The sad thing about that is I don’t think I was named after her. I think they just liked the name Joanne plus there was a song that was popular at the time with that name in it. I guess that would explain why there were 3 other people with the same name in my class.

I never did like it. And now there’s an interesting question for my blog readers – how many of you like your name? I suspect you probably like it now or, at least, have gotten rather used to it but when you were a kid, did you like your name?

I found out the 2 names in contention were Joanne & Christine. I always was annoyed they didn’t pick Christine. My mom’s reason for not picking that is there was some famous sex change person back then so that sort of ruined the name for them. I guess that’s understandable. Frank never liked his name, either. His real name is Francis. He says he wished his parents had named him the Italian version of it – Francesco. Geez, how did this blog post wander off so?

My first name was an incredibly popular name for girls when I was born. Army’s first name was an incredibly popular name for boys when he was born. We promised to never do that to our children. We failed miserably. Linus has an incredibly popular name. I’m ok with my first name; I’ve had it long enough that I’ve definitely gotten used to it. I love Army’s first name. Obviously I like what we named Linus. I do NOT like my middle name though. At all. I avoid it at all costs. Army’s middle name is just eh, but I’ll admit it’s MUCH better than what his mother wanted to use for his first name! I LOVE the middle name we chose for Linus.

So, how do you say pecan? I say puh-kawn.

Why, pea-can, of course. Just how the word looks.

Now I’m REAL curious as to your real names. You may have to email me on those. And, while I can guess where you got “Army” I’d like to know how you came up with yours & Linus. Did you ever post that on your blog when you started it? I guess I’m gonna have to go look now…

OK, maybe I’m the only one, but to me pea-can just sounds like something a redneck might use on his way home from a bar!

I haven’t told the origin our our names on my blog, but think about my blog name (it’s pronounced lan-yap) and you can pretty much figure how I came up with mine. Creative, huh? I’ll tell the story of Linus and Army in my blog sometime soon. Army probably isn’t what you think though–I like to mix it up every now and then. :)

NAH-NAH-NAH-NAH-NAH–I know the Lanny Family Real Names!!! And nice names they are, too!

I don’t like OR dislike mine; to me, it’s probably one of the most “blah” names there is. My poor Mom–so convinced she was having a boy, the only name picked out was Kevin. So she got what she thought was real creative and came up with “Kimberly.” Seven other Kimberly’s in our small-town hospital THE SAME WEEK I was born. I don’t know, I guess if she liked the name, that’s good enough for me. It’s not like it’s terrible, and I don’t know what name I think would be fitting for me so, I guess, it is what it is…

Maybe Fifi LaFouf would be a good name for me? Or Mergatroide Magillicuddy. I think Joanne is a good name!

I grew to like Kathryn over the years. Most people assume my real name is Katy because I never go by Kathryn. The other name my mom was thinking of for me was Penny, which I would have hated so I guess I am lucky. There are two other women who live around here with the exact same name as mine…first, middle and last to the letter. Since I am not fond of these people it can cause trouble. The older of the two, they are mother and daughter, seems to bounce checks occasionally. I spent the first 2 or 3 years of my married life explaining to local store owners that those weren’t my checks, mine had SH’s name on them too and that wasn’t my address.
