Breath of Heaven

Yesterday I was out of the house for 9 whole hours. Nine hours of breathing in real air that was varnish fume free. It was heavenly. The men finished up by 11:30 a.m. and 20 minutes later I was on my way to catch an express bus into the city. I’m tellin’ ya, give me city air with a bit of car & bus exhaust any day over the smell of varnish!

I decided that it’s rather a shame I’ve been a resident of NY my entire life and haven’t set foot into half the museums here so I headed over to the Museum of Modern Art, better known around here as MoMA. I discovered something. I do not like modern art. I’m sorry but I do not consider a huge painting that is nothing more than a piece of canvas painted red with a stripe of a slightly different shade of red as art. I don’t give a rat’s ass who painted it & how famous the person was.

After viewing every single exhibit in record time, I went downtown to the South Street Seaport. It’s within walking distance from where Frank works. (They recently moved him from midtown to back downtown.) It was beautiful out yesterday and it’s not full-blown tourist season so it was not crowded.

While I was waiting for Frank to get out of work, I sat and breathed in real air and was entertained. There were these 2 Jamaican guys who were doing these very complex acrobatic feats to Motown music. One of those guys… well I don’t think I have ever in my life seen someone as thin as that. He shall now be referred to as Rubber Man because, let me tell ya, you have never seen a guy twist himself up like this guy was doing. And how on earth do men do splits? Wouldn’t they have to be real careful??

I know, I know. I have failed all of you because I have no pictures. I ran out of the house so quickly that I forgot my camera until I was at the bus stop. Then I didn’t want to go back home to get it because I’d have missed that bus and would have had to breath in varnish fumes for an hour, until the next express bus came. But I promise, now that the weather seems to finally be getting better, I will be in the city & I will be bringing you the sights of NY. Maybe I’ll even get out to Coney Island and get a picture of the Cyclone & Wonderwheel for Kim.

Hold on there, missy. You do not like abstract art. Modern art is contemporary art which mean art made in your lifetime. And that’s a wide range. There are, for example, artists who take various shades and tones of red and use them to paint a heck of a tomato.
    I’m just saying.

Virginia, you are absolutely right. It’s not that I hate modern art. It’s abstract art that I hate. And you have no idea how badly I want a painting from that tomato artist hanging on one of my walls. Yeah, soon as they finish the freaking floors and as soon as I paint the walls and as soon as I get down to Atlanta this fall…
