The Day The Blender Died

Before we get to the blender story, let me give you the back story. Tonight we are supposed to put all the leaves out for pick-up. This meant we first had to rake them up. I have a few bits of advice for those of you who aren’t rich enough to hire a lawn service to take care of the leaves.

1. Do not bother to take a shower before going out there. You’ll only end up filthy & need another shower.
2. Do not put on clean clothes because they will only end up in the hamper.
3. (the reason for 1 & 2) Make sure the stupid bag thingie is securely attached to the leaf blower/vacuum. Otherwise it will spray tiny bits of leaves all over you.

And by the way, does anyone know what fun it is to blow leaves when it’s like a damn hurricane out there with the wind blowing 150 mph and sending the leaves right back at you?

My arms can only take so much physical labor before feeling like they are going to fall off. Then there’s the fact that I try to use my left arm more to avoid re-injuring my right elbow. Eventually I left Frank on his own & came inside. It is barely above freezing outside so as I was thawing out, I got the great idea to make soup. Not just ordinary, empty the dry mix into a cup soup. Real soup.

Hmmm…. what sort of soup did I want? I know! Why don’t I make creamy potato soup? It sounded like a good idea at the time. The tiredness from cleaning leaves hadn’t kicked in yet. I put up a pot of potatoes to boil and when they were done, I got some chicken broth & threw that along with the potato chunks into the blender.

The blender sounded a wee bit strange. It’s been a while since I used it so I figured maybe I had just forgotten what a blender sounded like. Then it started smelling weird. It sort of smelled like an electrical fire. I kept an eye out for smoke, hoping it would at least puree my potatoes before actually dying. Good news – the potatoes got good & pureed right before the final curtain call for the blender.

I will be putting the potato soup recipe up on Cooking For A Cause, along with pictures, sometime tomorrow. It’s a fairly easy recipe – just as long as you have a blender that doesn’t have one blade in the grave.

Will Santa be bringing Monk a new blender for Christmas? To be perfectly honest, I WOULD like a blender for Christmas since I don’t have one that can die on me. I figure, as long as you were able to do what needed to be done to make the soup, it’s all good. I’d much rather wrestle a dying blender than those pesky leaves!
