Cooking For A Cause

I am working on a new blog project with Katy & Kim. Our blog is Cooking For A Cause (subtitled The Bloggers’ Virtual Cookbook). We have set up this blog with 2 main goals in mind: to raise money for charity and to share recipes. We are asking that people make a donation to the charity of their choice using the buttons in the sidebar. (We are not at all involved with the whole donation process. People will be taken directly to the charities’ websites.) In exchange for making a donation, you get some really good recipes.

We are hoping to get a lot of people involved with the project by donating recipes. If any of you would like to have a recipe included, you can email me using the link in the sidebar. Make sure you include your website or blog url so we can link to you. Each recipe that is put on the blog will have a line at the bottom that says, “Submitted by YOURNAME” with the name (first names only) being an active link to your own blog or website. NOTE: You do not need to have a blog or website to submit a recipe. (Yes, Janet, that means you can send me one.)

Please spread the word about this blog (The Cooking For A Cause one, not mine.) because the more people that know about it, the more money these charities will get. If you have a blog or website, maybe you can link to Cooking For A Cause and mention it. Also, the more people involved in sharing recipes, the more cooking we’ll all be doing. Unless you don’t cook. In that case, you’ll just have to print out the recipe and hand it to your resident chef.

I’ll be happy to put a plug in for the site.

Do you have any way of tracking how much money does get donated?

  2. Monkling says:

Thanks, Dave. And no, we have no way of tracking that. All we can track are out clicks so we can see which charity button gets used the most but that’s about it.

I set up the buttons to take people directly to the donate pages of those charity sites. Our 1 attempt to contact one of them directly resulted in them completely not understanding and thinking we were looking to do fund raising.

Monkling, this is a great explanation and Cooking For A Cause looks great; you did a fantastic job on it, and I’m proud that you and Katy even include my name. Being as how I did nothing for the project besides a blog post today talking about how I did nothing for the project.

  4. Dolores says:

hmmm….well I didn’t do anything for the project either, but nobody mentioned MY name. I guess you just got lucky Kim

I just checked out the new blog and it’s way cool! Good work! I hope it’s a huge success.

This explains why the OLS EMHC schedule is still set for OCTOBER!

You mean you didn’t see my anonymous $50,000 donation to the Red Cross?

About that – apparently someone was bitching to Msgr. about it. I’d like to hunt down the person & tell them that I’ve been doing this for 5 years, that it’s not like I get paid for this and that unlike every single other volunteer thing, I get no breaks from it. End of mild rant. Not in a very good mood this morning.

  8. Dolores says:

 Big hugs! I hope you know I was just teasing. I could never complain about someone who volunteers their time. I think what you do is amazing and not nearly appreciated enough. I wonder what percentage of parishioners ever look at the church’s website anyway. Small, I bet. I know the feeling. For a short time several years back I created and maintained a website for CYO but after a while it started to feel like I was the only one viewing it. Eventually I closed the site but I sure enjoyed doing it. Anyhow, I hope I just caught you on a bad day and that you didn’t take offense at my attempt at what was apparently a bad joke. You’re the comedian here, not me.

Just so everyone else knows – yep, knew you were kidding. Trust me – it takes an awful lot for me to be angry with a friend.

Do you want us to test you?

Dave, I can’t imagine anyone ever being angry at you, much less me, but if you’re up for the challenge, go for it.

By the way, people, keep in mind that Cooking For A Cause will constantly be updated with new recipes. It’s my own personal goal, like here on my own blog, to do a post a day.

That’s great but come January 1st I am joining Weight Watchers. I figure why should 2008 be any different from any other year. ugh!

Well maybe starting January 1st, we’ll just start putting up healthy recipes.

Sounds like a plan to me!
