It was a year ago this week that we made the decision that we really didn’t want 2 mortgages which meant temporarily giving up our dream house. (I will not go into all the gory details of what happened. The short version is the people we were buying from backed out of a verbal agreement and, since it was verbal, we didn’t have many options other than the one we made.)
For the 4 months we had our house on the market… well let’s just say it was interesting & it is not an experience I want to repeat any time in the near future. One part of the whole house selling venture, though, wasn’t a complete nightmare. This involved packing up stuff and getting rid of some of the clutter.
Keep in mind that we’ve lived in this house for over 22 years. You accumulate a lot of stuff in 22 years. The first things I packed up were knick knacks, things that didn’t really serve any purpose other than sitting around collecting dust. Next came my mom’s china. It’s not like I do a lot of entertaining and I could always use those every day dishes for the times I did. Everything was carefully labeled. Or so I thought.
Recently I realized that among the dishes, I also packed our wine glasses. With the housing market the way it is, we’re not going anywhere for quite a while so today I decided to unpack a few boxes and try to find those wine glasses. I went through all the boxes that were labeled as containing glasses. No wine glasses showed up. Okay, maybe I stuck them in with the punch glasses or the beer mugs. Nope, not there, either. Either one of the potential house buyers ran off with them or I did a really good job of packing them & a really bad job of labeling them. I vote for the first guess. Yeah, I can just picture that family sitting around drinking wine out of our glasses.
“Their house was horrible but damn, they had a nice set of wine glasses, didn’t they?”

Damm those wine glass thieves! I say the best revenge is to get NEW, BETTER wine glasses. You and Frank can then sit around, swilling wine, chuckling and saying, “Our house is NOT either horrible and, ha-freakin’-ha, THEY got to old, grody wine glasses!”

make that: “…THEY got THE old, grody wine glasses!”

I have found that the best way to find things like that is just to go buy new ones and then the other ones show up somewhere you are sure you looked.
I would go on some more about wine glasses but being an almost baptist…….well you know we drink ours out of a mountain dew can so no one knows. I also have my new MONKLING MIX to listen to. Thank you!

LONG LIVE THE MONK MIX!!!! Got mine in the afternoon mail and I will be chair-dancing to it at work tomorrow. Thanks, Monk…and I really liked the list! Tell Frank for me that I STILL love Boston, and YES…Owner of a Lonely Heart/I’ll Be The Roundabout…and I don’t know what happens when we hit this age group, but all of a sudden I’m likin’ country music too–and I’ve always had a special aversion to it. From iTunes I was searching for “Family Tradition” “Take This Job and Shove It” “I’ve Got Friends in Low Places” (my ballad to you and Katy–snort
snort), ’70s Charley Pride faves, etc. What is up with this?

A few months ago my husband convinced me to unpack the set of crystal glasses that were an engagement gift from my [first] mother-in-law. Since I never had a china cabinet to display them in and never enough cabinet space in my kitchen they remained in the original boxes since 1981
Last night as I was complaining about wishing I had a bigger kitchen with space for everything he opens the wine glass cabinet and says to me “These are taking up so much space, do we have to keep them here?”

I got my Monk Mix too! It came on Saturday and I wondered why she didn’t just give it to me in Church the following day, especially since I warned her that I wasn’t going to pay postage. Some people just don’t listen.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet but what a mix! Thank you!!! (I’ll let you know if it plays in my car.)
Oh, and don’t get me started on country music…it’s just about all I listen to. If you want to borrow any of my CD’s just come on over and pick whatever you like.

Ohhh so that is why you and dad have been drinking wine out of plastic cups! It all makes sense now!
