When we left for San Antonio on Thursday, I got stopped by security. “We have to check your bag.”
“Sure, no problem.” I couldn’t imagine what their issue was but whatever. Mr. Security Person took out the trouble maker - our little alarm clock/white noise maker.
I was amused watching them and kept thinking, “Okay, you don’t want to look like you’re smiling or happy because then they’ll think you’re up to something.” It didn’t work. I still found the whole thing funny as I watched them take some little wipe thingie and test it for who knows what. It was a relatively quick process and when they found out I wasn’t trying to do anything illegal, they let me through.
Did I mention I loved San Antonio? I can’t even say how many times we just roamed around the Riverwalk. It was just full of people, music, food and a few unexpected visitors:

They seemed to have this thing about breakfast foods. First thing I noticed in the hotel at breakfast were the Texas shaped waffles. I thought they were pretty funny.

Then there were the pancakes. Apparently pancakes are so important in San Antonio that Venus de Milo has turned into Aunt Jemima. This statue was in Market Square:

Tell me it doesn’t look like she’s standing on a stack of pancakes.
Everyone we encountered was very friendly. Even their statues were friendly. This little bird really seemed to like this guy:

The only disappointing experience we had was watching the much anticipated Coffin Parade. It has something to do with Dia De Los Mertos. I expected boats to go by, covered with all sorts of decorations. Their “parade” consisted of 4 boats with decorated coffins. Unfortunately, since it was dark and they barely had any lights, you couldn’t really see anything. I’m no design expert but even I could have done a better job with the decorations. But even with that, it still turned out that we were better off with going when we did because a week later (this weekend) it’s supposed to rain there.
