This morning I went on a treasure hunt. It was a difficult hunt because there was no treasure map with a nice big X on it. Today I found out exactly why those pirates made treasure maps. It’s because they all had the same disease I have: CRS aka “Can’t Remember S___.”

I’m not a big jewelry person. My wedding ring no longer leaves my finger and I have my cross & miraculous medal but that’s basically it. (I used to have an engagement ring but we won’t go there.) The only other things that are of any value are my grandmother’s pearls, a necklace that was my mom’s and a bracelet that my grandfather bought for my grandmother.

A year ago, we had our house on the market. This meant strangers were roaming through my house, looking at my stuff. I didn’t think it would be too wise to leave the few pieces of jewelry I did own lying around for everyone to see. Not being the trusting sort, I didn’t even want to leave it in a drawer. Who knows what went on during those open houses when we weren’t there. For all I knew, mobs of would-be buyers could invade my house and wander around unattended. I decided this would require me to hide my jewelry. The only problem with that plan was I neglected to draw a map.

Fast forward to today. Yes, that is how long it’s been since I entertained the thought of wearing a necklace or bracelet. Today we have a wedding to attend and I thought my mom’s necklace would go rather nicely with the long black dress I’m wearing. You all know where this is going. I couldn’t find the necklace. I had no idea whatsoever where on earth I stuck all that stuff. Obviously I am quite good at hiding things and am capable of foiling any burglary attempt.

Thus began the treasure hunt. It lasted a few hours and had me searching everywhere from my bedroom closet to downstairs in the basement. I was nearly ready to grab a shovel and start digging in the backyard. Eventually it did end on a positive note & I will be wearing a necklace tonight. Next time I decide to hide anything, I am going to draw a map, which I will then hide because otherwise, anyone can use the map and I’ll have a new thing to search for in addition to the jewelry.
