I bet you think I’m going to get into this deep, philosophical conversation. Sorry, but you’re wrong. I’m not all that deep.

On Saturday, we went to an outdoor art exhibit in Long Island City called Socrates Sculpture Park. FYI - Long Island City is not in Long Island, it’s in Queens. Strange, eh? It’s right on the east river so it’s pretty there. (Does anyone notice a reoccurring theme of water in the places we go to?)

Roosevelt Island

Just to show everyone exactly how clueless I am, we initially thought this skyline was Manhattan. It’s not. This is Roosevelt Island. We figured that out afterwards. You see, there was this orange bridge going there. We pretty much know all the bridges that go into the city and here was this entirely unfamiliar bridge.

After consulting a map, we discovered this orange bridge was the Roosevelt Island bridge. Ah, yet another place to add to our list of future destinations. That would explain why I felt the city seemed way closer than normal.

Back to the art - I don’t usually like abstract art. I just don’t get it. As a matter of fact, I am so evil that I will make fun of the people who stand there staring at a piece saying things like, “Oh, what an interesting perspective!” I’m sorry but all this looks like to me is a bunch of metal:

towerbabel

That blue tower, however, I loved. It’s called Babel and it is the best use I ever saw for the New York Times aside from using it to cover the bottom of a bird cage. (My apologies to those of you who find that insulting.)

I also thought this was pretty cool:

shark

I have a better shot of the tower and a close up of the shark fin but I try not to make my blog too graphic intensive. (Is that the right phrase?) I even compress the photos that I put on here so it will load quickly. I have uploaded the rest of the photos to photobucket so if anyone is interested, they can see them.

I am currently cooking Frank’s postponed birthday dinner. There’s a pot of sauce & meatballs on the stove right this minute. I will be kind and not post photos of that. It would only make you slobber onto the keyboard.
