Who Moved The Beach?

Father’s Day was very laid back around here. I made sauce, meatballs & ravioli for dinner. (And, without any consulting, so did my sister. Great minds, eh?) We watched a movie. Then the kids had an idea. They decided they should go bowling.

Steve: “If we go bowling with Dad, are you going to come with us?”
Me: “No, I can’t pick up a bowling ball.”
Steve: “You can sit and watch us.”
Me: “I have stuff to do around here.”
Steve: “You will not break the Sabbath!” Now there’s a line I never heard before but hey, who am I to argue about cleaning?

After a few hours, with no action on the whole bowling idea, I said, “Are you going bowling because if you’re not, Dad & I are going to go to the beach.”

The kids came back with, “Why don’t we all go to the beach? And then you can buy us ice cream.”

So we drove down to Jones Beach. It was our favorite time for walking on the boardwalk – sunset. It had cooled off, most of the crowd had gone home and the sun hung like a huge red beach ball in the sky. Then, as we walked further along, we saw something strange. The beach had moved:

Jones Beach

Usually you have to walk miles on the hot sand before hitting the water. That evening, the water was practically up to the boardwalk. If you look at that white blob in the upper, left hand side of the photo (next to some sort of sign), that is a lifeguard chair. The blue beyond the chair is the actual ocean. And yet, here was water, right within spitting distance. I have no idea how it got there. I am going with the theory that some kids with really big shovels spent the day digging. This may require further research and more sunset trips to the beach.

I think those kids would have had to have a back hoe! I do love beach pictures because we who live so far away from the beach don’t get to see it often and we really miss it.
I think Kim is ignoring our not so subtle hints about the camera…..aren’t you Kim?

HAHAHAHA–Katy, you KNEW I’d be over here!

No, really, I’m not ignoring the camera thing; in fact, I have a couple of brochures for ones that are in contention for purchase. BUT, I am up to my ass in tile dust right now, haven’t even had a chance to read the manuals to find out what all my new (a month or so ago)phone does. And I don’t even have any rudimentary understanding of digital cameras and what you do with them as it relates to computers and putting pictures on blogs. I can’t even figure out how to get my gifs, etc., on anything other than e-mail! Plus, this freakin’ house spiff-up crap is slowly draining my rainy-day fund dry. I may have to go back to eating popcorn all the time, just like when I was 22 and that was all I could afford!

So, how else is everybody doing? Monkling, I am fascinated by your comment. Ya got me! I think you really need to keep very close tabs on the goings-on at Jones Beach, and often! And maybe a bunch of your friends should come and help you. But, in the meantime, I’m really glad SOME PEOPLE have cameras and know what to do with them, so those OTHER PEOPLE who are technological idiots can live vicariously. So…

Thank you…thank you very much! I already said it to both of you, but I missed you guys over the weekend.

Okay, I will accept my job of taking photos of beaches for you poor, land-locked people & technophobes. But keep in mind this particular beach picture isn’t a good one. The area of water between what looks like a sand bar is usually uh… sand. Those dark colored things lined up are garbage cans. And if that was high tide, well we’ve been there at high tide before & I never saw the water come up that close to the boardwalk.

Someone moved the beach, I tell ya!!

You could have never told us that this wasn’t a great beach and we would never have figured it out. I have the Ohio River for goodness sakes and we aren’t even supposed to eat anything that comes out of it…it’s disgusting.
