Stephen was playing something on the piano as we’re sitting in the living room watching the Yankee game. (With the way they’re playing, lately, you can do a ton of other things while the game is on because half the time, you won’t want to see what happens.) So I tell Steve he should compose something.

“I am. I call it Mom.” Then he bangs on the piano keys. Both kids find this highly amusing. Then he starts banging again and says, “Hey guess what this is called.”
Theresa jumps in. “Mom, Talking.” Then they both look at me and say, “Say something else.”

Naturally I wasn’t going to say anything else so I just gave them the Italian salute. The brats.

Did I mention the boy took my cell phone the other day and switched it to Spanish and then was laughing at me because I don’t understand enough Spanish to switch it back to English.

Something is just so wrong here. I keep telling them, “We do not live in a sitcom! You are not funny!” but they won’t listen to me.

The old dog is snoring. And today’s conversation went like this:

spearSteve, as he’s getting ready to leave for work: Is it supposed to rain again?
Me: It’s suppose to rain for the next 3 days.
Steve: I guess I’ll have to take the umbrella.
Me: You mean the umbrella I gave to your sister?
Steve: What?! That was my umbrella. I found it in the closet last night.
Me: It was pouring out when she left for work.
Steve: But it was mine.
Me: Actually, it’s Dad’s.
Steve: Well I found it stuffed way back in the closet. I bet you didn’t even know it was in there. Just for that, I’m going out just like this with no jacket.

You may be wondering about the spear and what it has to do with rain. Until recently, Stephen was taking Kung Fu classes. The school was 2 blocks away. As you can see, the spear is sort of long so rather than trying to stuff it in the car, he usually chose to walk to class whenever he needed to bring the spear. One day it was raining so he tied an umbrella onto the spear and walked to class carrying it that way. I still wish I could have followed along to capture that sight on film.
