Traveling Rituals

Most normal people, when they’re getting ready for a trip, do normal stuff. They make lists of what they need to bring and they pack their suitcase.

It should come as no surprise that I don’t do the normal stuff. I clean. I have no idea why. I hate cleaning. I will do anything to avoid cleaning. Yet, if we’re planning on going away, for some strange reason, the house must be cleaned. There’s some vague idea in my head that when I come home, I want to come home to a clean house.

Right now all the floors have been mopped. The furniture has been dusted (yeah like that will last and stuff won’t have a layer of dust by the time we get back). The clothes have all been washed & the sheets changed. I’m compulsive about it. How can someone who hates cleaning suddenly become a clean freak? What odd thing happens in my demented brain causing this?

Now I just have to remember to leave Theresa a note in huge letters saying, “This house is spotless. I expect to find it in the exact condition I left it in when we get back!”

Another thing I’m obsessive about is making sure everything is charged before we leave – the cell phone, my camera battery, my PDA. It’s not like I’m not packing the chargers for all of these so why the heck am I worried about them being charged? Okay, don’t even say it. I can hear what you’re thinking but is it really necessary to say it out loud? It has already been pretty much established here that I am weird.

I thought cleaning the house before you left on vacation was normal. I always clean before I leave so I can come home to a clean house. Even if it is just a day trip, I make sure everything is clean before I leave. Then I’m always delighted when I get home and don’t have to clean anything and I always charge all my camera batteries before I go somewhere so I can take any pixs I want without having to wait for them to charge.

Sorry, Monkling, but you are as normal as anyone else!
Sorry, Monkling, but you are as normal as anyone else!
Am not!! Besides, you can’t compare me to you because you’re not normal, either.

P.S. Big mistake with the mopping. My arm & elbow were killing me all day yesterday. See? I knew cleaning was evil!

I’m much more likely to mope than to mop before a trip.
