Restaurants I Like

I shouldn’t have been posting at 2 a.m. because now I’m going to edit this to death. First I’m going to start with the original post of some of my favorite restaurants:

My Favorite Restaurants

  • Luigi’s (New Hyde Park, NY, 718-347-7136) Italian
I just love this place; they make the best Italian food. We’ve been going there once a month for at least 8 years. My all time favorite is their Veal Margarita but I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything there that I didn’t like.
  • Zutto Restaurant (Great Neck, NY, 516-504-8605) Japanese
We have Bishop Cisneros to thank for finding this place. We used to have a different favorite Japanese restaurant that we had gone to since our dating days but they closed. Then Steve told us about this one.
  • Black Forest Brew Haus (Farmingdale, NY) German
Good German food and they have their own mico-brewery on site.
  • Cozymel’s (Westbury, NY) Mexican
Yeah, it’s a chain but it’s still good.
  • Hellenic Snackbar & Restaurant (East Marion, NY, 631-477-9577) Greek
This place is a bit of a trip but it’s not far from the Long Island wineries and has great Greek food. I fell in love with Greek food back in high school when my friend, who was Greek, took us to a relative’s restaurant in the Village.

Now that I had to include Cozymel’s in my list, I’m thinking of chain restaurants in general. Some are ones I’d only go into if I had no other choice (Sizzlers & Red Lobster come to mind). Others I really like, for instance, I love Cracker Barrel.

So – chains: which ones do ya’ll like & which do you hate?

El Fenix is my favorite chain. The original restaurant was near Downtown Dallas built in 1918 and they’re all over the Metroplex now, but still owned by the founding family. I love their enchilada special. Their food is always hot and fresh and service is outstanding.

I like Crackerbarrel, too, and there’s one about 10 minutes from my house. I also like Steak ‘N Ale and Crazy Joes.

I HATE all of the fastfood chains especially McDonalds and Burger King.

There’s no Cracker Barrel anyplace close. Is there an El Fenix in San Antonio? BTW, did you notice I found emoticons and something so you can be notified of replies? There’s supposed to be some sort of “new note” notification but I can’t figure that one out yet. Hmmm…. maybe you have to actually register as a user for either of those to work.

  3. pegs says:

Yes, I noticed the emoticons  and was going to type a second note using some, but I got smacked with a security code on the first note that I had to type in and it rejected me and gave me a mocking error page and kicked me out after finally accepting the comment. I had to go back to your blog button to get back here. What next?

  4. pegs says:

Okay, that note went through with no required security code and left me right here at the reply form. :?: Did you fix something in the past 15 minutes?

I googled and yes, there is an El Fenix in San Antonio now. You can google and check directions and get the map if you’re interested.

I googled: El Fenix San Antonio

I clicked on the send email notification, but nothing seems to have happened. I’ll register and see what that does.

  7. Monkling says:

I don’t think it’ll email you if you’re the one replying. Then again, maybe it will. What do I know.

When it gets closer to Nov. I’m going to post a note on HW about the San Antonio trip & see if anyone wants to come. So you coming?

  8. pegs says:

Okay, now I have a profile and page of stats showing me how many times I’ve commented and on which notes and how many visits I’ve made, lots of numbers to obsess over and a little note below this reply form telling me I am subscribed to this entry and a link to click saying: Manage your subscriptions. I guess that’s what I click to go back and see that I have one more comment to add to my total!

But there are other Mexican restaurants in S.A. that are pretty cool. If you’re nice to me, I might even name them.

I figure there has to be a ton of really good Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. Will taking you to Luigi’s count as being nice to you?
